Action!

As students learn more tools and techniques in Photoshop, I want them to be inspired to take risks and explore new applications. For this project, each student brings in a photograph of himself in action—and then we learn how to apply Photoshop actions to the images. I have collected (and created) a batch of unique actions over the years. Most have tutorials associated with them; all create different effects. Each student selects a different action to try, and I let the class loose without much formal instruction besides what is provided in the action toolkits. They learn to swap tips with each other, research unfamiliar stylings, and tweak the results—which are stunning!
